About the books and authors:

“Leading with Humanity: Unlock the leader you are meant to be” by Peter Laburn

“Leading with Humanity” is more than just a book; it’s an invitation to embark on a deeply personal journey of leadership, one that emphasises being over doing. In a world where actions and achievements often overshadow personal growth, Laburn challenges this norm by encouraging readers to find their true selves. His book is a unique blend of philosophical wisdom and research-backed principles, offering insights into becoming a better human and, consequently, a more effective leader in both business and life.

Peter Laburn, has a rich background that profoundly influences his work. Born and raised in Johannesburg, Laburn founded Peter Laburn International in 1991, a time of significant political and social transition in South Africa. His work, which spans over a hundred clients across four continents, reflects his commitment to driving positive and lasting change. Laburn’s extensive experience includes notable roles in the South African insurance industry, where he played a pivotal role in driving change.

His passion for catalysing meaningful change in individuals and organisations led him to establish the Lead with Humanity network in 2007. This network helps leaders from various backgrounds connect with their purpose, leading and living with authenticity and humanity. “Leading with Humanity” is the culmination of Laburn’s notable business career and his dedication to humanity-driven leadership development, offering readers an authentic guide to better themselves and their leadership skills.

“Crucial Conversations” by Niël Steinmann

In his latest book, Niël Steinmann, South Africa’s leading mentorship authority, advocates for a structured, intentional approach to mentoring, termed ‘crucial mentoring conversations.’ Recognising the evolving challenges in business and personal development, the book emphasises the importance of quality relationships in achieving success. It offers practical tools for mentors to facilitate self-awareness and learning in mentees, enabling them to transform their situations and relationships. This enriched edition introduces ‘conscious mentoring,’ focusing on the mentor’s self-awareness, the depth of the mentoring relationship, and a thorough understanding of the mentee’s unique journey. The book guides mentors to engage in meaningful, transformative conversations, covering a range of topics from personal purpose and career challenges to relationship management, both in personal and professional spheres.

Niël is a specialist business consultant and registered Industrial Psychologist. He has invested more than a quarter century studying mentoring, coaching and leadership development. In 1999 he founded People’s Dynamic Development, a management consultancy that utilises African analogies to develop people and organisations to increase their performance capacity significantly. Niël is also the author of “Fundamentals for effective mentoring: Raising giant killers” which received international recognition and endorsements from prominent and renowned leadership consultant Dr Ken Blanchard.
